A flea market treasure!

It always surprises and delights me to see that artworks from famous artists continue to be discovered in unexpected places. The most recent story is that of a Renoir painting bought at a West Virginia flea market and estimated to fetch between 75,ooo$ and 100,000$ at auction. The story is worth reading at The Washington Post.

The event PAPIER12 is a contemporary art fair of works on paper from hundreds of artists from all over Canada. The fair will showcase thousands of artworks on paper through different forms: print, drawing, photography, sculpture, installation, performance, etc. The event starts on April 13th until April 15th at the Quartier des Spectacles, right next door to the Place des Festivals. The entrance is free.

30th FIFA!

No, not the World Cup of soccer, but the International Festival of Films on Art that takes place every year in Montreal. This year, from March 15th to the 25th, FIFA will be celebrating its 30th anniversary by showing 232 films in various categories: painting, sculpture, architecture, design, fashion, literature, dance, music, photography…The festival’s mission is to promote art and the artists who create it through film. Beautiful Graffiti

Here’s a mural that made My Modern Met’s top 10 most inspiring projects of 2011. The piece, Our Lady of Grace, is by an artist run collective called A’Shop from Montreal. A beautiful example of how graffiti can embellish a neighbourhood.
